### **Geology**
The rock is dark grey sandstone and shale with nice textures and a friendly low-angle aspect. 400Ma. The elevation at the top of the Sugarloaf is 923m.
### **Approach**
The access involves some short but steep hiking. Perfect for large groups, and the Wells Cave Track provides an excellent “”Rock Journey”” for younger school groups.
### **Facilities**
The last cafe available is back in Buxton, or even further back in Healesville. There are drop-toilets at the Sugarloaf Saddle car park, and while we are at the cliff the bush is your only option – please make sure you go before the trip. Rubbish must be carried out.
### **Weather information**
Bear in mind that this is a heavily forested mountain range, so it will draw its share of weather, and may stay damp for some time after rain. For that reason make sure to bring a jacket even on warm days. Weather can be unpredictable, as can the risk of bushfires. In some cases Parks Victoria will cancel the activity on days of Total Fire Ban or if there is a threat from local wildfire.
