Staughton Vale

### Indigenous Groups
The Brisbane Ranges area, including Staughton Vale, is traditionally associated with the Wathaurung people (also known as Wadawurrung).
### Climbing Information
Staughton Vale, nestled in the picturesque Brisbane Ranges approximately 70 km southwest of Melbourne, offers an enticing escape for rock climbing enthusiasts. This hidden gem boasts a compact yet diverse climbing area, featuring a charming cliff face that’s easily accessible from the car park.
The crag presents a variety of climbing styles to suit different preferences and skill levels. Top-roping options abound, making it an excellent spot for beginners or those looking to hone their skills in a relatively low-risk environment. For the more experienced climbers, traditional (trad) routes provide an opportunity to test route-finding abilities and gear placement skills.
Adding to the mix are a handful of short sport routes that cater to climbers seeking more challenging ascents.
### Seasonal Closures
The site is closed from 1 August to 30 November due to the Peregrine Falcon breeding season.

### Facilities
There are no facilities close to the Staughton Vale climbing area. Please take all rubbish away for disposal or recycling.
### Weather Information
One of the few climbing areas around Melbourne without a significant increase in altitude from the surrounding plains, the Brisbane Ranges is usually subject to the same weather as seen at the surrounding weather stations. It is usually dry and even after rain the rock tends to dry quickly. As always, weather can be unpredictable, as can the risk of bushfires. In some cases Parks Victoria will cancel the activity on days of Total Fire Ban or if there is a threat from local wildfire.
