Geology

As the 400 million-year-old remnant of one of the largest volcanoes ever seen in Earth’s history, Camel’s Hump, together with Hanging Rock and Croziers Rocks are made of igneous trachyte.

Style

Steep and solid rock, with a variety of short pumpy sport routes, tall trad lines, and crispy boulder problems, as well as a small cliff ideal for learning Sport Climbing.

Approach

The walk in from the car-park is generally less than 10 minutes.

Nearby Attractions

Hanging Rock, Mt Macedon Trading Post, Open gardens

Facilities

The cafe that you drove past on the way up the mountain – The Mt Macedon Trading Post – is the closest shop in the area – it is around 5 minutes drive away. There are no toilets at the car park, and while we are at the cliff the bush is your only option – please make sure you go before the trip.

Weather Information

Mt Macedon usually has temperatures a few degrees cooler than Melbourne and can at times be extremely cold and wet – for that reason make sure to bring a jacket even on warm days. Weather can be unpredictable, as can the risk of bushfires. In some cases Parks Victoria will cancel the activity on days of Total Fire Ban or if there is a threat from local wildfire.
